What is a Water Well?

Relatively little available drinking water is from surface water such as rivers. Most water that can be consumed is found in underground formations. A water well is a borehole drilled into such a formation that allows for the use of this water. Typically, a water well consists of casing from the surface to the water-bearing formation, a screen to allow water to penetrate into the casing, a pump to push water up to the surface, and a pipe to transfer water from the pump to the surface.
